LUCKY ORPHANS HORSE RESCUE FARM HELPING THE HORSES GET TOGETHER

MARCH 4th – 2023 : DUCHESS COUNTY, NY

Helping out the Horses was an awesome time. Everyone was really warm due to the high temp and humidity today, but we kept our spirits high as we persevered in building a border fence for a future horse riding area out of cut up small trees. We were then able to spend time walking the grounds and interacting with the horses as they saw fit. Seeing everyone today walking around the farm, talking, laughing, helping each other, and helping the farm brought such meaningful joy to me I have a hard time expressing it in words. I hope those who attended had a good time as well, and those who didn’t, get to join us when we go back in the future. I can’t thank or speak highly enough about Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue Farm and the incredible people who work there, it is a non-profit and if you can help, please check them out online to perhaps make a donation or sponsor a horse. Fellowship meeting tomorrow night will take place as usual in person at 7 pm and online at 730 pm. Have a great weekend my dear friends, and I love each and every one of you!!!!

BROOKFIELD PENGUIN PLUNGE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CT SPECIAL OLYMPICS

MARCH 18th – 2023 : BROOKFIELD,CT

The Penguin Plunge in CT is an event which runs in several towns all around the state, where people sign up as individuals, or part of a team to raise money by promising to jump in a cold body of water in the middle of winter for the benefit of the CT Special Olympics Program. This was Brookfield’s second Penguin Plunge, and the town did an incredible job raising over 5 times what they did their first year. Team Walrus is the team, members of our fellowship participated on, and we raised over $1300. The town raised over $35,000!! We started with breakfast and coffee as a team, and dressed in our costumes, which included a crazy penguin, a St Paddies Day celebrating Pirate, and the Incredible Hulk. After the refreshing swim, we went to a local fellowship members house for a relaxing BBQ and Bonfire.

SOBER THINK TANK’S FIRST HIKE AT RAGGED MOUNTAIN MEMORIAL PRESERVE

APRIL 1st – 2023 : BERLIN, CT

This past Sunday was an outstanding day! A few of us met for a hike as scheduled, and proceeded to take the wrong trail because Jen C. was leading and she subconsciously wanted a longer harder hike than the scheduled one 😉. We made it to both look out cliff ledges and saw incredible views…. and were looking DOWN at circling vultures. They apparently smelled weakness in me and came up to see how close I was to collapsing and becoming their dinner. Jack C. became the self appointed social butterfly of the mountain, and we got to meet some ham radio operators, and a rappelling group. Peter R. had the unfortunate responsibility of making sure I didn’t get weak in the knees and held me up from falling off the cliff, just to get one photo of me with the view behind, but we got it done. We were able to find our way back to our cars, and huffed it home just in time to have a Sunday evening fellowship check in meeting which was really nice, with great shares from everyone. I hope everyone has a great week, and I love each and every one of you!!!

STT HEADS TO WOLCOTT TO BLACKSMITH BLADES OUT OF HORSESHOES

APRIL 16th – 2023 : WOLCOTT, CT

We were extremely lucky to have the opportunity to get an introductory blacksmithing class from a season five runner up from the history channel’s forged in fire competition, Brian Evelich!!! He was an outstanding instructor, and made sure we were all safe, and had a great time as well. There were 4 stations and we rotated through 3 people at a station at a time, as we hammered away at a horseshoe to change it into a knife.

NORTHWEST TRAIL HIKE AND ANIMAL BARN

MAY 7TH 2023 – WINDSOR, CT

This ended up being a SWINGING good time! We got together to go on a hike with a bunch of good people in our network, and spend a nice day outdoors in nature. However, we ended up getting more than that. When we got there a kind gentleman in overalls was closing up the sugar house, where they make maple syrup and other maple sugar candies, and he was kind enough to let us know all about the property and it’s history. From there we got to go see some of the animals on site, and then a walk through a museum dedicated to the history, and wildlife of the area. Prior to the hike, most importantly of course, we had to hit the kids park for some members to get a healthy swinging session in.

STT FOOD TRUCK FUN

MAY 13TH 2023 – ENFIELD, CT

A few of us hit the mall parking lot in Windsor, CT to walk around and discuss which foods we thought would be the best, since it would be impossible to try even more than a couple trucks food. I started at the cheese steak variety truck, and had a grilled philly cheese with multiple types of cheese, sautéed onions, and mushrooms made as a patty melt. From there we all hit the deep fried balls truck, and everyone got loaded taco fried balls with a side of salsa and sour cream, and the mac and cheese burger fried balls. The funniest for everyone but me, was when my son asked me to go down the big slide on a potato sack, with him in my lap….heavier you are, the faster you go, and we caught air on the last bump. Hit so hard several people that were waiting for their kids made the “oooooo, that hurt,” sound/comment. Tailbone definitely bruised, sitting down, no longer an option.

Relay For Life – American Cancer Society

Saturday June 3rd, 2023 – Ansonia, CT

This year we continued participating in Relay for Life, raising over $1300 for cancer research. We had a fun tent with cornhole, football, frisbee, BBQ’ing, and of course our raffle baskets. We had a home pampering kit with all sorts of spa type goodies; a puppy lover basket with treats, toys and more; a coffee lovers basket with 6 lbs of coffee, syrups, mugs and more; intro to hiking basket with a pack, fishing pole, lamp, fire starters, multitool, and more; and finally a toy basket with all sorts of micro machine cars and tracks. It was a great day with food, vendors, music, and just good people having a good time together. Looking forward to next year.
